Welcome to River East!

Like any group of people, our community holds a wide variety of beliefs. But there are a few things we have together named and gathered around:

  • We believe that God—through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ—is in the process of re-creating the cosmos, and so has called us all to become a Jesus community for the world.
  • We trust that compassion is at the heart of God, so we shall strive to laugh with those who laugh and weep with those who weep.
  • We believe that Christ has called us to do justice, listening and acting for the least, the lost and the left out.
  • We know that life can be messy, so with God's help we strive to hold paradox, together.

Ultimately, we believe that church should be a place where anyone—anyone—can experience belovedness and kinship with God. This is what Jesus taught us and offered us, and this is what we strive to embody for everyone who comes through our doors.

So, bring your questions and your doubts—we’ll engage them together.
Bring your achievements and success stories—we’ll celebrate with you!
Bring your pain and your sorrow—we can help each other carry the load.
Bring your complex, opinionated, and honest self—there’s a seat for you at God’s table, so there is a seat for you at ours as well.

Inclusivity Statement

River East Church is a Jesus community for the world. We invite everyone to join us in living out this mission as followers of Jesus in the Anabaptist/Mennonite tradition.
This invitation is extended to all persons, whatever their ability, age, ethnicity, family status, gender identity, income level, race, sexual orientation, or other identity distinctives. All are welcome to full participation in the journey of discipleship.
We strive to live as a community of love, even as we acknowledge our different understandings of Scripture. In our diversity, we gather around the Lord’s Table to celebrate our unity in Christ.

We are an Anabaptist church within the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (MBCM), the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (CCMBC), and the International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB).
